The Motor Vehicle Administration will be the government organization that will administer your practice permit test for Maryland.  The MVA website will contain a number of useful resources for those seeking a learner’s permit in Maryland.  This includes a sample permit practice test for Maryland and the Maryland Driver’s Manual, which will contain all the information necessary to pass the written testing phase of the process.  You may choose to take the sample practice permit test timed or untimed and this will greatly improve your chances of passing the written portion of the testing.

Regarding the written testing phase, the permit practice test for Maryland will be given in English or Spanish.  The format of the test has changed recently, so be aware of that.  For those that require English assistance, they will need to make an appointment to take the test by computer at the MVA office with an oral assistance program or obtain an appropriate translation for their test.  The written test will consist of 20 questions and a score of 85% will be needed to pass.  Unlike other states, there is no fee to test for a learners permit, unless you require the services of an interpreter.  The hearing impaired is granted an interpreter at no cost.

The minimum age to apply or a Maryland learner’s permit is 15 years 9 months and parents’ consent is required.  Those under 16 will also require certification of school attendance.

The permit practice test to obtain a learner’s permit in Connecticut is 25 questions long and based on the Connecticut driver’s manual, which is available on the Connecticut DMV website and at local offices.  Those under the age of 18 will need to obtain parent consent before taking the permit practice test in Connecticut.  
You will be required to pay a $40 testing fee and this will allow you to take the permit practice test Connecticut only once.  Each subsequent time you wish to take the test, you will have to pay the $40 fee again.  In addition to this fee, there is also a $19 document fee to receive the permit.  Acceptable forms of payment vary depending on the Connecticut DMV office, so be sure to verify your payment options before applying to take the permit practice test at any location.
Practice permit tests for Connecticut are available on the state DMV website.  The questions range from 12 – 15 per test and will be multiple choice format.  You will need to study the Connecticut Driver’s Manual before attempting the practice test.  Additionally, there are podcasts on several topics tested by the permit practice test in Connecticut.
After passing the test, you will need to complete 40 hours of behind the wheel driving experience as well as follow the mandatory restrictions place on permit holders under the age of 18.

Utah License Plates

All motor vehicles registered in Utah have to display license plates, which drivers receive after registering for the first time at the Utah Division of Motor Vehicles. Cars and trucks receive two Utah license plates for the front and rear of the automobile. However, motorcycles and trailers only receive one license plate. In order to receive replacement plates, you can bring registration card and pay $10 to get new plates. 

Standard Utah License Plates

Utah has over 30 different license plates to choose from, excluding disabled plates, personalized plates, historic plates, and exempt plates. The standard Utah license plates come in two different styles, one with Utah's red rock geography and another with snow.

Special-interest Utah License Plates

There are more than 20 special-interest Utah license plates available to Utah drivers. Many of them have varying fees and requirements depending on the style. Some of them may also be personalized while others cannot. 

Personalized Utah License Plates

For personalized Utah license plates, you can select a message of up to seven characters on a standard Utah license plate or five on a specialty plate. The Division of Motor Vehicles has guidelines about what your message can be and does not allow profane or obscene messages. After paying a fee of $55 (depends on the style) and $3 for mailing and submitting Form TC-817, the Application for Personalized Plates, you will receive your plates through the mail after approval. The Division of Motor Vehicles provides a helpful online service where you can pick a plate style and try out different license plates numbers to see if they are available. Iowa License Plates

When you buy your first motor vehicle as a resident of Iowa, you will receive two Iowa license plates after paying your registration fees. Your Iowa license plates will show a unique plate number. Iowa license plates follow the driver rather than the car. For example, if you decide to sell your car and buy a replacement once within 30 days, you may use old Iowa license plates on your new car once after paying the necessary registration fees. If your Iowa license plates are damaged lost, you may obtain replacement Iowa license plates at your local county treasurer’s office for just $5. 
Personalized Iowa License Plates
The state of Iowa provides many different specialty or personalized Iowa license plates. The selection of designs includes license plates for breast cancer awareness, Iowa’s Motorcycle Rider Education program, organ and tissue donor awareness, and plates different state universities in Iowa. There are many personalized license plates that are used to honor Purple Heart recipients, military veterans, and former prisoners of war.
In most situations, you can get personalized plates for cars, motorcycles, trucks, vans, sport utility vehicles, travel trailers, motor homes, and trailers. Fees for personalized or specialty Iowa license plates are in addition to the normal annual registration fees of a motor vehicle. These fees depend on the license plate design chosen.  Specialty or personalized Iowa license plates can be purchased through your county treasurer’s office or by using the application forms found on the Iowa Department of Transportation website. 

Vermont License Plates

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles allows Vermont drivers the option of either standard green-and-white Vermont license plates or one of many specialty Vermont license plates. Before getting any license plates, you must make sure you are registered and titled with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. 
Standard Vermont License Plates
Unless you specifically order special Vermont license plates, you will automatically be issued standard Vermont licenses plates. These license plates feature white characters that are surrounded by a white rectangle on a green background with a small maple tree in the upper left corner and the phase “Green Mountain State” on the bottom.
Personalized Vermont License Plates
You can apply for any personalized plate as long as it follows Vermont’s guidelines. Personalized Vermont license plates are limited to 7 characters and cannot be offensive. When submitting the Special Plate Application, you will also have to pay an additional $38 fee each year in addition to the normal registration fees. Sometimes it can take up to two months to process personalized Vermont license plates. If it is necessary, the state will provide temporary plates until your vanity plates are ready.

There are many different specialty plates available in Vermont. The fees involved depend on the style of the plate requested. Some specialty Vermont license plates include the following:

Kansas License Plates

Kansas requires you to have Kansas license plates on your motor vehicle. In order to get them, you must register your motor vehicle with the Kansas Department of Revenue Division of Vehicles.
Personalized Kansas License Plates
If you wish to purchase your own personalized Kansa license plates, you must first visit your local Division of Vehicles office. You will have to apply and pay for the new Kansas license plates at least four months prior to your vehicle’s registration renewal date. 
You can personalize Kansas license plates with a maximum of seven letters, numbers or spaces for a passenger vehicle, and five letters, numbers or spaces for a motorcycle or disability plate. You can use any combination that is currently available as long as the combination is not profane, lewd, indecent or vulgar in symbol, meaning, or connotation.
The Division of vehicles issues personalized Kansas license plates a five-year cycle. This cycle allows Kansas license plates that are no longer used to be cycled back for the use of other drivers. These personalized license plates are only available in one plate style that unique to personalized license plates only. The current artwork of personalized Kansas license plates depicts a brown buffalo on a tan background. The personalized plates for cars are limited to seven characters, while motorcycle plates are limited to five.
Personalized Kansas license plates have a fee of $40, which is a one-time fee for the five-year cycle. At the end of each five-year cycle, you must renew the license plate personalization, but there will not be an additional fee. However, your registration will still be subject to the normal vehicle registration fees, plate fees, personal property taxes, and county service fees.

Virginia License Plates

If your motor vehicle is properly titled and registered in Virginia, you can choose to purchase different Virginia license plates for your vehicle rather than receiving the standard-issue Virginia license plates. In order to purchase license plates, you must have your title number and vehicle ID number, which can be found on your registration card. If you are purchasing personalized, specialized, or souvenir Virginia license plates through the mail or in person, you will also have to complete and submit Form VSA 10, the License Plate Application form. If you decide to order Virginia license plates online instead, you can look through samples of all the available license plates and see what they would look if you decided to personalize them.
Specialized License Plate Designs
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles offers over 200 special Virginia license plates designs. For an additional annual fee, you can get Virginia license plates with your university logo and name, or promote the rotary club membership or show your enthusiasm for certain hobbies. There are different Virginia license plates representing civic organizations, the military, fraternities and sororities, and more.
Personalization
You can also choose to personalize your Virginia license plates with a unique character combination of up to 7 numbers and letters. You can check online through the DMV Now service provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles to see if the license plate personalization you want is available. There is no obligation by using this service, but if you decide you want to purchase these special Virginia license plates, you can purchase or reserve your plates online. Personalized Virginia license plates cost an additional $10 every year.
