Arizona Permit Practice Test

Arizona is unique in that licenses issued by the state do not expire until age 60, although the picture will need to be updated every 12 years.  Any person that is at least 15 years and 6 months old may apply for an “instruction permit” that will allow them to learn how to drive.  They may upgrade to an operator’s permit at the age of 18.  In the intermediary, they may apply for a graduated license that has some restrictions on when the driver may operate a motor vehicle or who may be passengers in that vehicle.
The permit practice test in Arizona consists of thirty multiple choice questions and a score of 80% is necessary in order to pass the test and receive a permit.  The test is administered through touch screen computer kiosks and audio assistance is available.  After you pay the requisite fees, you have three opportunities to pass the written test within 12 months.  Failing to pass after three attempts will require you to reapply to take the permit practice test Arizona again.  Practice tests are available online at the Arizona DOT website and each consists of ten questions based on the Arizona driver’s manual.  These materials are available in English and Spanish.
In addition to the written permit practice test Arizona, the applicant must demonstrate basic levels of English proficiency including English instructions to “stop, slow down and drive straight.”
